Pigment is derived from the Greek word pingere meaning to dye, and is a substance that can change the color of a reflective or translucent light by absorbing the selected wavelength. A pigment must have a high coloring property compared to the materials to be painted. It must also remain solid at room temperature.

Durability and color fastness are among the desirable features of a pigment in the field of industrial and artistic applications. Therefore, volatile pigments are also referred to as non-durable pigments. Escape pigments fade over time or when exposed to light, to the point where they eventually turn black.

It’s also a good idea to know that pigment is different in color. The difference is that the paint must be absorbed by the dye, while the pigment only colors the surface of the object. Pigments are insoluble in water. But they can be dispensed with a suitable solvent, such as the pigments used in painting.

Pigments are mainly used for coloring paints, inks, plastics, fabrics, cosmetics and foodstuffs, varnishes, oil paints, cellulose paints, plastic paints, paper printing and dyeing inks and iron installations, and so on. Today, it is very important to cover the surface of metal and wooden objects, buildings, vehicles and so on. Because these devices are protected by paint from various factors such as air, moisture, and chemical compounds, coatings are also the main use of pigments.
